am struggling to find time to write.</p>
<h2 id="sans-tech">Sans Tech</h2>
<h3 id="thindi-walk">Thindi Walk</h3>
<p><a rel="external" href="https://fknil.com/">Fenil</a> invited me to a thindi walk last saturday with one
of his friends. Thindi walks are a couple hour long walks where you explore a
locality's eateries and if lucky - also its history. This time we went to <a rel="external" href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/EaS1Tt83SWh3VKL96">BDA
Complex Banashankari</a>. Unfortunately
we missed on clicking any photos, too immersed in the experience.</p>
<p>We started with a chaat place. Historically speaking, I have not been a chaat
person - my stomach has considered it heavy. But the dahi-samosa and
dahi-kachori I had gave me a new experience - I actually liked it lots!</p>
<p>Then we went to eat a mid kathi roll, where when we asked to cut the roll into
three pieces, we were given stares and exclamations, understandably.
Then we had Pav Bhaji at a busy shop, that was good. After that we had butter
Gobi Manchurian at a busier shop, and that was better.</p>
<p>We decided its time for chai. Fenil had got us some cream buns on his way from a
80 year old bakery and we were saving them for chai. The cream bun and jaggery
tea combo was godlike. I am definitely gonna ask Fenil to bring more of those
next time we meet.</p>
<h3 id="minions">Minions</h3>
<p><a rel="external" href="https://iovec.net/">Pratham</a> invited me, Manish (a friend from Dyte) and my
roommate Gautam to watch Minions & Monsters this Sunday.</p>

<p>Obviously, I medidated to <a rel="external" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_L5YHBH3Go">Rich
Minion</a> a night before. We also
discussed <a rel="external" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqbA1CTFJ9M">suiting up</a> for the
movie but decided it will be uncomfortable. Ah next time maybe, and when the
movie is about Kevin, Stuart and Bob.</p>
<h2 id="tech">Tech</h2>
<p>My first two weeks at <a rel="external" href="https://together.ai">Together</a> are going great. I am
picking up very exciting work on writing Kubernetes controllers and partitioning
Infiniband.</p>
<p>But it also takes up a lot of my time because I have only worked on these sort
of networks at a higher level before and there's a lot of knowledge for me to
consume.</p>
<h2 id="music">Music</h2>
<p>This week I am gonna recommend a favorite of Parul and mine's.
I discovered it while in Utrecht a couple of months ago, and it has become a
frequent listen for us.</p>

<p>It's soft, dark, melancholic and magical. Give it a couple of listens and it

<p>It finally reached her. In 2 weeks.
Safe to say, I am not going to recommend IndiaPost for urgent couriers.</p>
<h3 id="house-of-the-dragon-season-3">House of the Dragon Season 3</h3>
<p>House of the Dragon's Season 3 is has been airing for 2 weeks now, and I
was lazily delaying watching it because I had forgotten the plot
intricacies; not my fault if they take 3 years to release a new season
ʕノ•ᴥ•ʔノ ︵ ┻━┻<br />
But I got some time to kill this friday and I watched some recap videos
on YT, and then went on watching the first episode.</p>
<p>First the intro music hit me and got me in the mood - I was pulled back
to the times I used to wait for the next Game of Thrones episode. And
they delivered. I'm starting to feel the buildup and anticipation for
the plot to thicken. It's very much like Game of Thrones, which is
saying a lot.</p>

Dragons of HOTD, and lurking

Exciting times.</p>

<p>And with some back and forth of getting my account unfrozen

<h2 id="career-updates">Career Updates</h2>
<p>This week I joined <a rel="external" href="https://www.together.ai/">Together AI</a>'s
infrastructure team for a 3 month contract. I will be working on
"cloud-ifying" baremetal GPU compute, infiniband and storage from
datacenters, as ready to use Kubernetes clusters which will then be used
by research labs and companies like Cursor to train their models or run
inference on. There is so much interesting work on the table that I feel
like a kid at a (very expensive) toy store.</p>
<h2 id="music">Music</h2>
<p>This week I am gonna recommend some minimal techno by Boris Brejcha.</p>
<p>Fun fact about Boris, he was <a rel="external" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_Brejcha#Personal_life">badly burnt in an air show
disaster</a>
when he was 6, and his scars are still visible. That didn't stop him
from making great music, what a legend!</p>

<h3 id="niko-finally-got-his-major">NiKo finally got his major</h3>
<p>It finally happened!! Last sunday, Team Falcons won the <a rel="external" href="https://www.hltv.org/events/8301/iem-cologne-major-2026">Cologne
Major</a>, giving NiKo his
first major. I have been waiting for this event for years.</p>
<p>If you don't realise why I am making a big deal out of this, you probably don't
follow the professional scene in Counter Strike (CS); and if so, allow me to take
you through a thread from the tapestry of CS history.</p>
<p>The year is 2015, a promising young prospect Nikola "NiKo" Kovac joins team
Mousesports - his first international team. Immediately, we see that he has
insane mechanics. Below is a clip where with a pistol, he aces (takes all 5
kills possible in a round) against a half-buy round from one of the most
dominant teams at that time -</p>

<p>When I first watched that clip as a kid, I immediately thought of him as a well
achieved player, but NiKo had just started his journey. For the next couple of
years he went through chasing expectations. There was a stint where took the
unfitting role of the in-game-leader (IGL). He managed to get on board of the
<a rel="external" href="https://www.hltv.org/news/19593/top-20-players-of-2016-niko-11">HLTV top 20 players of 2016 at
#11</a></p>
<p>He left Mousesports in 2017 to join team FaZe Clan, and he had already managed
to become the <a rel="external" href="https://www.hltv.org/news/22510/top-20-players-of-2017-niko-2">#2 best player at the end of that
year</a>. These
annual leaderboards are, till this date, lead by Sniper (AWP) players, because
the AWP has a significant advantage of having the maximum damage any gun can the
do in the game. NiKo, being a rifler, had to post insane stats to reach even the
top 5, but he did it. The CS community was in-agreement that he was the best
player in the game during some seasons of that year.</p>
<p>Winning a Major is the biggest feat a player can achieve in Counter Strike.
Majors starts months in advance when any 5 people from the world, can form a
team, apply, and play in regionals. Other tournaments are invite only, invites
are sent based on the team's VRS (valve ranking system). Majors used to have
significantly larger prize pool - 1M+ USD, but nowadays some other big events
also have close to that.</p>
<p>In 2018, FaZe's roster was full of star players - NiKo, Guardian, <strong>Karrigan</strong>,
Olofmeister and Rain. The E-League Major 2018 was set to happen in Boston, and
there was a North American favorite in the brackets - team Cloud9. Both of the
teams eventually clashed at the Grand Finals - NiKo's first at a Major. What
happened that night is forever remembered as one of the greatest Major runs in
CS. Cloud9 came back all the way to tie the score at 15:15, forcing an overtime
(at that time a team needed 16 rounds to win) -</p>

<p>FaZe eventually lost the Major to Cloud9, giving North America their only Major
till now. At this point, talks of NiKo's "choke" mentality rose, suggesting that
he doen't perform when required to, and chokes himself. FaZe's team got
reshuffled after that setback. NiKo left FaZe to join his cousin brother Hunter
in team G2 in 2020.</p>
<p>G2 didn't have star players like FaZe, in fact NiKo was the only star player
when he joined the team. He joined the team only because he wanted to play with
his brother, which I found very refreshing in the competitive scene. Little did
anyone expect, in 2021, a G2 got heavily carried by NiKo into the PGL Major
Stockholm Grand Finals, where they would play against Na'Vi. But alas, that
Major trophy had yet another legend - s1mple's name written on it. NiKo did
whiff a shot in the Finals, which he gets a lot of flak for, but I believe that
Na'Vi was much stronger overall anyways.</p>

<p>NiKo's form was impeccable throughout his G2 era. He went on posting as the
<a rel="external" href="https://www.hltv.org/news/31000/top-20-players-of-2020-niko-4">#4</a>,
<a rel="external" href="https://www.hltv.org/news/33154/top-20-players-of-2021-niko-3">#3</a>,
<a rel="external" href="https://www.hltv.org/news/35367/top-20-players-of-2022-niko-5">#5</a>,
<a rel="external" href="https://www.hltv.org/news/37952/top-20-players-of-2023-niko-2">#2</a>,
<a rel="external" href="https://www.hltv.org/news/40720/top-20-players-of-2024-niko-4">#4</a> best player
of the year from 2020 till 2024 respectively. He came very close to winning
events and won some, but his eyes were on the Major. NiKo most recently switched
to Team Falcons.</p>
<p>Around 60 days ago Karrigan left team FaZe to join team Falcons, and Major in
Cologne was the 3rd tournament this Falcons roster played together. They made
the through the group stages after defeating the Na'Vi, which held the #3 rank
until this event. After that, they were put into one of the most difficult
bracket in Major history. To give context, their quarterfinal matchup was with
the #1 team in the world, Team Vitality. They won a close game, and went up the
ladder to face Team Spirit which was ranked #2. They defeated Spirit in a yet
another close game, and went to the Finals to face the rank #5 team - Team Furia.
Falcons held rank #4 before this event.</p>
<p>NiKo had joined forces with Karrigan, and repeated what happened in 2018. But
this time things worked out in their way, and they completed one of the most
difficult Major runs, and NiKo Finally got his trophy.</p>

<p>NiKo's journey has been very inspirational for me. It took <em>possibly the best
rifler to touch the game</em> 10+ years to fulfill his dream. His very emotional
statement after winning was -</p>

<p><a rel="external" href="https://thetvdb.com/series/the-bear">The Bear</a> has been one of my fondest TV
shows in the past few years. The characters and their chemistry are unlike any
other show I have seen before. It has themes of chaos and depression, but it
grows on you and you start loving the characters and rooting for them. My
<a rel="external" href="https://sonarr.tv/">sonarr</a>'s calendar let me know that 5th season will be out
on thursday.</p>
<p>To prepare myself for the new season, I rewatched <a rel="external" href="https://thetvdb.com/series/the-bear/episodes/9762476">Forks - the 7th episode from
Season 2</a>. Forks is one of
my favorite episodes of televison. Be warned: it make you listen to Taylor Swift
and you will like it!</p>
<p>So I started watching the first episode of season 5 on Saturday night, and ended
up binging the whole season until Sunday morning. The total runtime was around
4.5 hours, and it was fairly paced. They ended the show very well, it happened
slowly and arcs were completed. I would recommend it to anyone who liked
watching Ted Lasso and movies from the Safdie brothers.</p>
<h3 id="main-vaapas-aaunga">Main Vaapas Aaunga</h3>
<p>On Sunday, <a rel="external" href="https://mankaran32.medium.com/">Mankaran</a> called me and
friends from the time we worked at Ola, to watch Imtiaz Ali's <a rel="external" href="https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/1431068">Main Vaapas
Aaunnga</a>. I rarely watch Bollywood,
let alone regional flicks, but I don't say no to suggestions :) I went in completely blank, and sleep deprived from The Bear.</p>

<p>Apart from the aggressive product placements, and Diljit's forced humor, this
was a emotional tear jerker. It's a story set in one of affected villages from
India/Pakistan's partition, and shows the unjustified expectations of the
government from the affected people, and how communities turned against each
other and committed horrific crimes.</p>
<p>I was skeptical after watching the movie, but after <a rel="external" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violence_against_women_during_the_Partition_of_India">reading some
wikipedia</a>,
I learned that the crimes were even more inhumane than depicted.</p>
<p>Sadly moving on, we went to <a rel="external" href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/pAjMn6VMk58wJF1B7">Veer
Ji's</a> to have delhi style soya chaap.
Having tried many, this is the only soya chaap place that I would
recommend anyone to go in Bangalore. It still doesn't beat the best chaap I have
had, which is 5 hours away from Delhi in Patiala, but it's good.</p>

<p>I wanted to join a tech-centric community on Mastodon, and
<a rel="external" href="https://hachyderm.io">Hachyderm</a> clearly stood out. Last week I sent in my
application, and waited for a week for their response.</p>
<p>When I didn't receive any, I went ahead and mailed them myself -</p>

<p>I knew one day my alias will bite me back, but I didn't expect this from a
mastodon account application. In all fairness, this is a justified response from
a community which is strict about its values, and peace is one of them.</p>

Problem</a> from
<a rel="external" href="https://itihas.review">Itihas</a> when they told me that I have one :(</p>

<p>Yes, I pulled the Jain card, and I didn't like doing that. But I believe that
people's personalities are conditioned from how they were raised up as kids, and
they can choose to uncondition themselves (high difficulty), but they can also
choose to keep some parts of it; and thus sharing experiences from the past gives
a lot of information.</p>
<p>Anyways, it doesn't matter because Hachyderm mods have not replied to my last
email, and another one I sent 3 days after.</p>
<h3 id="webmentions">Webmentions</h3>
<p>I wanted to add webmentions on this website, and bridge it with Mastodon/Bluesky
and so I considered other mastodons, and settled on good ol'

With the help of <code>$AIAGENT</code>, I have setup this site to show its webmentions and

of it, I am starting to write my first weeknote while I'm attending my
first <a rel="external" href="https://blr.indiewebclub.org/">IndieWebClub</a> session in
Bangalore. I was introduced to IndieWebClub about two weeks ago when
<a rel="external" href="https://fknil.pages.dev">Fenil</a> told me about this niche community of
people who are very enthusiastic about the art of writing blogs.</p>
<h3 id="sans-tech">Sans Tech</h3>
<p>Some day in the last week, I realised I had brought my girlfriend -
Parul's
<a rel="external" href="https://www.ns.nl/reizen/inchecken-uitchecken/reizen-met-ov-chipkaart">OV-Chipkaart</a>
with me in my wallet when coming back to India from Netherlands. She
needs it back for travelling to Bordeux next week, and so I had to ship
it back to her. After considering DHL which was very expensive (7-8K
INR), Aramex which had a borked up get-your-quote-form on their website
(and that literally runs their business), I decided to put my trust in
good old IndiaPost. IndiaPost offered 3-5 day delivery to the
Netherlands for sending an <em>International Registered Letter</em> and asked
for less than 1000 INR. The letter was picked up on thursday (yes, they
can collect it from your home!) and I am hoping she recieves it before
the end of next week.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, Parul and I have been watching
<a rel="external" href="https://thetvdb.com/series/dark">Dark</a> together (Jellyfin SyncPlay is a
godsent) for the past few weeks. It's my first and her second viewing.
We just finished the second season and obviously I did not expect how it
ended. Apart from the dense story line, I am really enjoying the rainy,
dark atmosphere the show creates - for a town that has such convoluted
problems, it sure feels damn /cozy/. Also, <a rel="external" href="https://www.last.fm/music/Nena/_/Irgendwie,+Irgendwo,+Irgendwann">Nena's Irgendwie, Irgendwo,
Irgendwann</a>
has been on repeat on my spotify throughout this week.</p>
<p>I joined Fenil, <a rel="external" href="https://msfjarvis.dev">Harsh</a> and
<a rel="external" href="https://yashgarg.dev">Yash</a> on wednesday to watch
<a rel="external" href="https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/1083381-backrooms">Backrooms</a>; and I
think all of us knew about the 4chan lore, bunch of nerds. Like every
other A24 movie I have seen, it did not disappoint. The first half of
the movie had some jumpscares which gave only a glimpse of the
entity(-ies?) in the backrooms and it led me to believe we'll never
actually get to see them. On the contrary, later, the entities were
actively participating, but the viewers still had less context, making
the screenplay more eerie and uncomfortable. Around the final scenes,
Kane Parsons had managed to grab my attention, play around with my
lingering confusion and injected streams of horror down my veins. I
liked this movie!</p>

<p>Since we had already planned Backrooms, me and Fenil decided to go to
Pizza 4P's before the movie, because I hadn't been there before. I liked
their bread! It was a specific combination of light and crispy -
different from every pizza I have had before. Also their cheese game is
top notch - the parmesan in the garlic bread was fragrantly tasty, and
their burrata felt light. I have never liked burrata before, but I'm not
gonna mind having it next time I visit 4P's. Attaching some obligatory

<h3 id="tech">Tech</h3>
<p>This week was also my last working week at <a rel="external" href="https://aion.xyz">aion</a>
(<code>$OLDCOMPANY</code>), my week mostly went into planning out the "knowlegde
transfer" sessions, and I was very happy how it turned out - I was
mentoring a <1 YOE engineer and a 7+ YOE engineer who took interests in
systems and devops / processes, and at the end of the exercise both of
them had implmented a miniature version of <code>$OLDCOMPANY</code>'s internal
infrastructure.</p>
<p>Parallely, I also had to take backups of my old work laptop before I
could wipe its disks and return it back, which resulted in an
upsurge of commits on my nix-based
<a rel="external" href="https://github.com/wantguns/dotfiles">dotfiles</a>. I managed to move more
of my state to the nix flake, which now covers the email client of
my choice - aerc, the RSS reader of my choice - newsboat, and the
secrets that both of these tools need to work, amongst many other things.</p>
<p>I was very happy when I managed to replicate my entire workflow from
<code>$OLDCOMPANY</code>'s work laptop to <code>$NEWCOMPANY</code>'s work laptop in less than
30 mins!</p>
<p>In the same vogue, I also migrated my 6 year old arch-linux PC to now
secure-booted NixOS, without tampering the Windows 11 partition (and its
<code>UEFI</code> data) I dual-boot to play CS2.</p>
<p>This nix flake's growth has outpaced my ability to write down blogs
about it. I want to find the time to write them in the coming weeks.</p>
